VOXI For Now Social Tariff – How Do I Get It?

VOXI have recently become the UK’s first SIM-Only network to introduce a ‘social tariff’ discounted plan.

This is great news for those who are struggling financially, and we’re hoping that other networks will follow VOXI’s lead very soon.

The social tariff package is called VOXI For Now, includes UNLIMITED 5G data, and costs just £10 a month. But the eligibility requirements may rule you out – check if you qualify for this great discounted plan below.

What is a Social Tariff?

A Social Tariff is essentially a discounted monthly price for household utilities – whether that is water, gas, broadband, landline or even your mobile phone contract.

To qualify for the discount, the billpayer needs to be in receipt of certain benefits – which we will outline below in the ‘eligibility‘ section.

The Social Tariff idea was introduced in 2021 by Ofcom and the UK government. Not many people know about it yet – and some believe it’s too good to be true. But it really isn’t.

As the cost of living crisis gets worse, many financially-stretched households are struggling to pay their utility bills. Ofcom launched the social tariff system by effectively forcing some companies to offer a cheap package or plan to their most vulnerable customers.

VOXI are the first UK mobile network to launch a social tariff discount – specifically it is a SIM-only plan, so does not include a headset.

They call it “VOXI For Now”, costs just £10 a month for unlimted everything, and it’s available now, to anyone in receipt of specific benefits.

(Update: EE have recently launched their own Social Tariff plan called EE Basics).

How much does VOXI For Now cost?

VOXI For Now costs just £10 a month. Yes, really. And it includes all this:

• Unlimited 5G data
• Unlimited minutes/calls
• Unlimited texts
• No contract, cancel any time

VOXI offer this exact same contract to regular customers, but it costs £35 a month, and has a different name – it’s called their “Unlimited” plan.

If you sign up for the “VOXI For Now” package, you will be saving £25 every month, compared to the regular price. Wow!

Is ‘VOXI For Now’ worth getting?

If you’ve never heard of VOXI before or aren’t sure if they’re right for you, you should be assured that they are owned by the UK’s largest mobile operator – VOXI are owned by Vodafone.

You can check the VOXI (Vodafone) network coverage in your area here. Be sure that you can get a decent signal before signing up.

If you’re not in a 5G area, then don’t worry – you can very likely still get 4G, in fact VOXI state that their 4G network covers over 99% of the UK population.

Does VOXI For Now support 5G?

Yes. VOXI’s social tariff – VOXI For Now – includes unlimited 5G data. That means you will never run out of data or need to ‘top up’; all for just £10 a month.

The usual price is £35 a month to those not receiving the social tariff discount. So definitely a big saving.

In fact, Vodafone (who own VOXI) started offering this plan during Covid-19, so it actually pre-dates the social tariff system introduced by Ofcom. Vodafone offered the same plan to anyone who had lost their job as a result of the pandemic, though that offer is no longer active.

If you want to get the discounted VOXI For Now plan, then you need to meet the eligibility requirements.

What’s the catch?

We don’t think there’s a ‘catch’, but there are a few things to be aware of.

Firstly, you need to make sure that you’re eligible. Vodafone (who own VOXI) are quite specific in which benefits and credits they accept, thankfully – see the below section.

One other thing to be aware of is that VOXI are offering ‘everything unlimited’ for only 6 months. After 6 months is up, they will revert you to their standard plan.

The standard plan still costs £10 a month so your monthly costs won’t change – but you will lose out on the unlimited data part.

Does VOXI do a credit check?

The good news is that there is NO credit check for this, according to VOXI. Your credit history will not be searched. This is great news for those with poor or no credit history.

Am I eligible for VOXI For Now?

Like with the Vodafone Broadband social tariff, VOXI have the following eligibility requirements. You need to be in receipt of any ONE of the following:

• Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
• Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
• Personal Independent Payment (PIP)
• Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
• Employment-based Universal Credit (UC)

How do the VOXI eligibility checks work?

VOXI use a company called Moneyhub, who are FCA-regulated, to verify your eligiblity requirements. In other words, they can instantly verify if you are able to get the VOXI For Now package or not.

Moneyhub will share no financial data with Vodafone, only the result of whether the customer qualifies for eligibility.

They do this by running several identity checks and should be able to give you an answer instantly. As their website states: “Moneyhub will provide VOXI with an automated FCA-regulated eligibility checking process, enabling quick and simple access to the tariff within three steps. Applicants must:

1. Confirm their benefits are paid into a UK bank account.
2. Select their bank from a pre-populated list.
3. Consent by agreeing that Moneyhub will check eligibility through Open Banking, to verify they receive a government benefit payment.”

I’m not eligible, what are my options?

If you’re not in receipt of the above benefits or credits, then don’t be too disheartened, as there are still other options available to you.

Firstly, VOXI say that they will try to offer help to any customer who is suffering from financial hardship. Usually this means they will discount your existing plan, but they may be able to move you over to their VOXI For Now plan. The best way to find out is to contact their customer support team.

Secondly, check for VOXI discount codes at websites like DiscountsCode2023. You may find that, after using a discount code, you are receiving almost the same deal as those on benefits anyway…!

What happens at the end of the contract?

There is no contract with VOXI’s For Now plan. You can cancel the contract at any time.

Remember that after six months, you will lose the unlimited 5G data part of the plan, and be limited to ‘only’ 15GB of data. In other words, the unlimited 5G data is only available for the first six months.
